Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja has released CCTV footage showing that one of their SS1 students, Keren-Happuch Akpagher, who died in June 2021, left the school premises ‘healthy’.
The video clips (See below) shows the deceased walking out of the school premises.
Keren-Happuch’s mother has consistently claimed that her daughter was raped while in the custody of the school and that she died from complications from the rape incident three days after she left school.
The mother said the 14-year old was not healthy when she picked her up two days earlier and when she was rushed to the hospital a day after she came home, a sperm-filled condom was found in Keren which led to an infection that eventually killed her.
“Three (3) days after I took away my daughter, she died in a hospital in Abuja on the 22nd day of June 2021.
“But, before Keren-Happuch’s death, the hospital discovered that she had been raped, condom left in her vagina, which had caused an infection that resulted to sepsis and trauma that led to her demise,” she said.
However, the school maintained that the late student was handed over healthy to her mother and absolved themselves of any complicity in her death.
The results of the autopsy carried out on the deceased and other findings by the police have not been released by the police.
The mother has refused to back down. Supported by the Coalition of Gender-Based Violence Responders, she continues to hold the school responsible for her daughter’s death. She is backing her claims with the fact that the FCT Police Command has confirmed the cause of death through a senior officer who spoke on a TV programme.
Premiere Academy said that it had written letters to the same police command to release reports of autopsy and investigation on the matter but had not received any response.
A group called the Coalition of Gender-Based Violence Responders on Wednesday staged a solemn protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, the nation’s capital, demanding a probe into the death of Keren-Happuch Akpagher.
They demanded justice for the deceased and called on the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen; Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu; and Minister of the FCT Mohammed Musa Bello to aid prompt delivery of justice.
The House of Representatives also on Wednesday waded into the matter and ordered an investigation after a member moved a motion on the floor of the House.
