The Federal Road Safety Service (FRSC) has said that its officers were not involved in the accident that led to the death of two students of the Ojodu Grammar School on Tuesday.
Recall that a trailer crushed two students of the secondary school who were returning home after class on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7.
Various reports indicated that some officers trying to enforce traffic and road safety rules were chasing the driver of the offending truck, leading to the accident.
Some mentioned the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), and Vehicle Inspection Service, while some mentioned (FRSC).
Responding, FRSC Lagos command spokesperson, Olabisi Sonusi, said its officials had no hand in the tragedy.
He explained that the articulated truck lost control at the Grammar School Bus Stop and his men only intervened after the crash.
The statement by the FRSC spokesperson reads: “After the accident, the men of the FRSC were called upon by passersby to help intervene after the crash happened.
“The general public should disregard the disgruntled information being circulated by some unscrupulous elements that FRSC men caused the crash.
“We want to place on record that our men were not in any way involved in the cause of the crash as patrol activities were not ongoing along that axis as of the time of the crash.”
Similarly, the General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (@followlastma), Bolaji Oreagba has categorically disowned the unsubstantiated allegation that officials of the agency were involved in the unfortunate truck accident.
Oreagba said ”from the reports we received on the incidence, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, probably because of mechanical reasons. The police are investigating the matter; the public should await their report”.
