Veteran Actor, Babatunde Omidina, better known as Baba Suwe has passed away.

The news was broken on the Instagram page of a fellow veteran actor, Modupe Johnson otherwise known as Fali Werepe.

She accompanied the post with tears emoji.

It was learnt that Baba Suwe died today, Monday 22nd November, 2021.

The news of his death was confirmed by the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan also known as Mr Latin.

Babatunde Omidina was born on August 22, 1958 in Inabele Street, Lagos Island, and grew up there, but came from the Ikorodu Local Government area in Lagos State in southwestern Nigeria.

He attended Jamaitul Islamial Elementary School in Lagos and Children’s Boarding School in Osogbo, then went to Adekanbi Commercial High School, 12 miles from Lagos State.

He ultimately received a West African School Certificate from Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo, the capital of Osun. Nigeria.

He stated acting in 1971 and gained prominence when he featured in a film called “Omolasan” produced by Obalende..

He gained more prominence when he starred in Iru Esin produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.

He has starred in and produced several Nigerian films, such as Baba Jaiye jaiye, a film featuring Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of veteran actor Adebayo Salami.

Omidina experience a major blight on his career in 2011, when he was accused of trafficking in cocaine by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, a charge described by the Lagos High Court as false and defamatory. He was defended by Bamidele Aturu a now late Lagos lawyer famous for his exploits in the area of human rights.
