Cop narrowly escaped being lynched after stabbing a tricycle operator to death in Lagos (Video)
A traffic warden was nearly killed on Thursday by an irate mob after he allegedly stabbed a commercial tricycle operator to death in Command, Meiran, Lagos State.
MSN learnt that the ‘kekeNAPEP’ rider was stopped by a group of policemen who demanded their usual N50 from him.
The ‘keke’ operator was said to have refused to pay, a development which angered the traffic warder attached to the ‘Ile iwe’ police station. He was said to have brought out a knife and stabbed the operator.
As the operator slumped, his colleagues and other bystanders raised alarm, attracting road transport union members and other youths in the vicinity.
The policemen, who sensed trouble, reportedly released teargas to disperse the fast gathering crowd.
The cops were said to have resorted to shooting in the air when the mob became more incensed. They had to take to their heels to escape being killed.
The traffic warden was pursued by the mob and beaten seriously. Some of the youths had already brought tyres to set him alight, but he managed to run into the police station.
