Boko Haram: 6 girls escape from terrorists’ camp with 9 children, one pregnant

Six girls have escaped from Boko Haram’s custody and have been received by Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum.

The girls, one of whom is pregnant, were kidnapped from various locations last October and last May.

They are aged between 20 and 25 years.

Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who is the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, said, “the victims ran away from Boko Haram custody at Buni Yadi axis of Yobe State and trekked through the Sambisa forest for about six hours before they were rescued by security operatives.

“The three of them were abducted on the 3rd of October 2020, while the other ones were abducted on 5th of May, 2021.”

According to her, the three kidnapped at Takulashu village of Chibok are Maryam Ishaya with one child, Racheal Simon with two children, and Esther Ayuba with two children.

The other girls, Alheri Ezekiel, Victoria Andrew and Victoria James, all with two children each, were kidnapped from Cofure village, Hong town in Adamawa State.

The girls reportedly received by their parents, Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno Chapter, Bishop Williams Naga.

“I am very happy to receive you my daughters after you fell prey to Boko Haram terrorists. We thank God Almighty for rescuing and protecting you from the hands of the terrorists, said Zulum at the reunion.

“As a government, we will do everything possible to reintegrate and support you to continue a normal life into the society as we hand you over to your respective families,” he said.
