‘Why we are holding Chiwetalu Agu’ – DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has revealed why they are holding the veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, after he was released by the army.

The spokesperson of the organization, Peter Afunaya, told the Cable that Agu was actually handed over to the DSS for further questioning.

He reportedly declined to give further details other than assuring that justice would take its course.

“The army handed him over to us for further questioning. As far as we’re concerned, justice will take its course,” he said.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, had earlier confirmed that Agu had been re-arrested by men of the Department of State Services.

Rollas told the Punch that the elderly actor was arrested by the secret police shortly after he was released by the Nigerian Army on Friday afternoon, October 8.

“We are currently working on securing his release.”

The veteran actor was first arrested at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, October 7, by the Nigerian Army for wearing an outfit made with the Biafran flag.

He was accused of soliciting support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The actor in a video that has now gone viral explained that he was only wearing a civil dress showcasing a rising sun.

He was sitting on the ground surrounded by gun-wielding soldiers in what appeared to be an army barracks.

He was later commanded to stand up and follow them into one of the offices.
