Social networking site, Facebook and affiliated platforms, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger are currently down.
The services have been down for two hours at the time of filing this report.
The development has led many to take to Telegram, with the messaging application announcing that it is experiencing performance issues because of “all the new folks signing up”.
It is not restricted to Nigeria as users from across the world are reporting the same challenge.
Service outage has been reported from the United States, the UK, Brazil, Kuwait, and numerous other countries.
It was also gathered that Facebook’s internal tools for employees are affected by this problem, and employees are referring to today as a “snow day.”
The development has adversely impacted Facebook stock, bringing it down by 6 percent since the outage.
WhatsApp in a statement acknowledged that its service is down.
“We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.
A statement by Facebook’s Andy Stone said:
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
