Southern Kaduna alleges foul play in Mailafia’s death

Obadiah Mailafia

The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) is alleging foul play in the sudden death of their son, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The SOKAPU is therefore asking for thorough, independent forensic analysis of his death.

“For a person of interest to Nigerian government to arrive at a government hospital, just to be declared dead after a few hours, sure smacks of foul play.

“SOKAPU demands thorough independent forensic analysis of their son’s death,” said SOKAPU’s spokesperson, Luka Binniyat, in Kaduna on Sunday, in reaction to the news of the demise of the former CBN chief.

The late Mailafia, who died on Sunday at the age of 64, hailed from Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He said, “The death of Dr. Mailafia is a sad, huge loss, not only to Southern Kaduna and Nigeria, but to the global community.

“The kinds of Mailafia are not common to find in any generation. He was not only one who loved Southern Kaduna, the Middle Belt and all other suppressed persons in Nigeria, he was a global citizen.

“He was so accomplished in his field that his services were sought after worldwide as his biography reveals.

“Before his curious and sudden demise, Dr. Mailafia had been persistent in accusing powerful persons in power of plotting to eliminate him permanently. In fact, he had been in hiding when his harassment from the secret police became too persistent.

“A select group of officials had visited him sometime last year at his abode, where a friendly governor had given him a safe place to stay, complete with security.

“We pray that God will console his wife and children and all the people that love him.”
