A brave trader, Mohammed Hamman Adama, fought off two off two armed men who attempted to break into his provision shop in Sangere Bode, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa state.
The hoodlums, Umar Sa’ad, 18 and Mohammed Idris, 20, belong to a group known as the Shila boys and were armed with cutlasses, hammer, cutting pliers and sticks, when they arrived at the shop about 2:00 am on September 2, 2021.
As they attempted to break down the door to access the shop, the noise of their activities woke up the owner of the shop whose house was nearby.
The shop owner armed himself with a cutlass and came out to confront the robbers.
One of the suspects fled the moment the shop owner appeared, but the other one picked up a cutlass for a fight.
In the ensuing duel, Mohammed inflicted deep wounds on the left hand of the hoodlum almost chopping it off, while the hoodlum also dealt Mohammed a blow that knocked him unconscious and bleeding.
The hoodlum fled, while the family members and neighbours of the shop owner came out to rush him to the hospital.
The following morning, police detectives traced the bloodstains from the scene of the crime to the house of the suspect at Sangere Bode and arrested him alongside his accomplice.
When arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 Admin in Yola on Friday, September 10, for criminal conspiracy, breaking open a receptacle containing property and causing grievous hurt, the suspects pleaded guilty.
After pleading guilty to the offence, the prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable the prosecution call a witness to corroborate their plea.
Ruling, Chief Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro, adjourned the case to the 23rd September, 2021, for corroboration, and ordered the remand of the defendants in prison custody.
