Toddler dies after being forgotten in hot car for 3 hours by babysitter

The late Arthur

A two-year-old boy has died of suffocation and dehydration after he was forgotten inside a hot car for three hours by his babysitter.

Arthur Oliveira dos Santos was left in care of Glaucia Aparecida Luiz, 35, who reportedly ran an “unauthorised daycare centre” in her home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, police said.

The babysitter, however, forgot Arthur in a car parked in front of their apartment and the boy spent the afternoon in the car under the scorching sun, the police said.

Officers were called in on Wednesday, August 25, after the boy was discovered, according to The Sun.

The boy was then rushed to the hospital but it was too late as he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The police said an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death would be carried out, while the suspect, who took care of more than 10 children together with her daughter in their home, would be prosecuted.

Glaucia’s lawyers said: “There was never the intent to bring about such an outcome”.

“The defence passes on our condolences and the most sincere condolences of Glaucia and her family to the boy’s relatives.”

The hapless boy was buried in a cemetery in Macatuba on Thursday afternoon, August 26.
