Operatives of the Benue joint security patrol team code-named ‘Operation Zenda’ have rescued a kidnapped businessman.
It was gathered that Peter Ogbonna was kidnapped on Thursday, July 29, at Ugba in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
On Wednesday, August 4, information was received that the gunmen who kidnapped Mr. Peter Ogbonna of Ugba town were in a hideout at Tse-Atoov, Alabar, Ukum LGA.
The operatives headed by Commander of Operation Zenda and Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Justine Gberindye, quickly swung into action and invaded the hideout.
On sighting the police, suspects engaged them in an exchange of fire but the police were able to subdue them and arrest three of the suspects at the scene.
One of them who sustained gunshot injuries was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead. The corpse has been deposited at the morgue while the other two identified as Yakyuur Aondona and Teryange Myina are currently undergoing interrogation.
The victim was rescued unhurt and has been reunited with his family. One fabricated berretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the suspects.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Anene Catherine, who confirmed the rescue, said cordon and search operation is ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects with gunshot wounds
“Members of the public with useful information about the whereabouts of these suspects are advised to quickly inform the police for necessary action please,” she stated.
Speaking after his rescue, Mr. Ogbonna thanked the Commander of Operation Zenda for coming to his rescue.
