Panelists on the only television Public Relations programme in the country, “Your Image”, broadcast on Ogun State Television, OGTV, have called on Nigerians to participate fully in the proposed citizens’ summit on national integration, peace and security being mooted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
They described the national summit as a long-overdue wake up call to discuss and proffer viable solutions to the on-going challenges bedeviling Nigeria namely insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, bad governance, nepotism and miscarriage of justice among other myriads of problems.
The panelists unanimously agreed that all Nigerians are currently feeling the heat of the challenges and urged citizens to send representatives to the summit which will hold at the state, zonal and national levels.
They expressed the hope that the proposed summit would not just be a talk show, adding that recommendations should be implemented by governments at various levels to de-escalate tension, forge national integration and engender peace and security.
The panelists who identified the summit stakeholders to include labour, government, students, market women, artisans, professionals and youths commended NIPR for mulling the idea describing it as a responsible professional body saddled with management of relationships to engender mutual understanding and build trust amongst citizens.
Members of the panel included the Ogun State Chairman of NIPR, Mr. Lekan Togunwa, veteran public relations practitioner, Mr. Dare Folarin, political scientist and Lecturer at FCE, Abeokuta, Dr. Simon Otumala while a Fellow of the NIPR, Mr. Akin Okudero moderated the programme.
