There are indications that the government of Benin Republic has rebuffed efforts to extradite Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, to Nigeria from Benin Republic without trial.
Authorities of the neighbouring West African nation are insisting on fair trial.
Reports indicated that the Beninoise government is set to try the activist for the local offence for which he was arrested.
Igboho was arrested on Monday night in Cadjèhoun Airport, Cotonou with a “fake” Beninese passport while trying to flee to Germany.
According to Sahara Reporters’ sources, the activist will be arraigned for immigration-related offences in Benin Republic before anything else.
Igboho has reportedly hired a Beninoise defence attorney, Rafael Huvehnou, who is said to be working on a bail application for Igboho and his wife. Huvehnou is currently an attorney to the President of the Benin Republic.
