A video has emerged showing the moment a desperate mother threw her toddler down from the top of a burning building in South Africa.
It was learnt that the building has a shop on the ground floor and apartments on higher floors.
Hoodlums rioting ostensibly in support of the jailed former South African President, Jacob Zuma, looted the shop on the ground floor and set it ablaze when they were done looting it.
People who lived on top of the shop, including the mother and her child, were trapped as the staircase had been engulfed by fire.
As the smoke penetrated the higher floors, the woman went to the balcony and attracted the attention of neighbours who stretched their hands for her to toss the child.
The toddler was safely caught by one of the neighbours.
