The night of tributes and candlelight procession for the late founder of the Synagogue Church of Nations Prophet TB Joshua, was marred by a fire outbreak that razed a store house within the church complex at Ikotun in Lagos on Monday night.

The fire reportedly broke out shortly after the procession, causing many of the church members who attended the procession to run for dear life.

No life was lost in the incident that reportedly started about 11pm. Members of the church were said to have immediately engaged the fire and were able to put it out by the time the fire-fighters arrived around 12:19 am this morning (Tuesday).

In a press statement, the church attributed the fire to an electrical fault.

The statement said: “In the late evening of Monday 5th July 2021, there was a minor electrical fire incident at a storehouse within The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations complex.

“The incident was quickly brought under control without any injuries.

“As part of the preparedness for the weeklong services celebrating the life and legacy of Prophet TB Joshua, The SCOAN has worked closely with relevant government agencies including the Lagos State Fire Services, whose members were on the ground at the time of the incident.

“We thank God for His continued protection. We assure the general public that there is no cause for alarm and the services celebrating the life and legacy of Prophet TB Joshua will continue as scheduled.”

Prophet Joshua died on June 5 at the age of 57 and will be interred on Friday, July 9, at the church premises in Lagos, according to the burial arrangements announced by the church.
