There are strong indications that the killers of the 300-level agricultural student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Blessing Olajide, have been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services.
MSN reported that Blessing Olajide, was gruesomely raped and murdered by assailants who broke into her residence in Ilorin on June 1. Read the story here.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, described the rape and murder of the student as “shocking and utterly condemnable.”
He vowed to get to the bottom of the incident.
“The development is heart-wrenching and absolutely unacceptable. Such antisocial and despicable behaviour will never be acceptable to all people of good conscience, and all of us will unite to fight this to a logical conclusion,” the governor said in a statement by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye.
The Punch now reports that eight suspects have been picked up in connection with the crime.
Many civil society organisations across the country had protested and demanded the arrest of the attackers, as well as their prosecution.
The Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, Mumini Jimoh, has reportedly confirmed that some suspects had been arrested over the crime and would be arraigned on tomorrow, June 30.
