At least 15 persons recently abducted by armed bandits in Tegina town, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have reportedly escaped from captivity.
The victims who escaped over the weekend were said to be among the adults captured with the 156 pupils of the Salihu Tanko Islamic school in Tegina over two weeks ago.
They were alleged to have been kept in a location different from where the children were kept.
While the location of the children was unknown, the adults were said to have been ferried into Zamfara forests.
Reports indicate that the fifteen adults found opportunity to escape on Friday when those guarding them fell asleep due to drunkenness.
They managed to open the door of the house in which they were kept in the forest and made good their escape.
Niger State government was said to have mobilised security operatives to assist the victims after one of them made it out successfully and informed them that others were on their way out of the forest.
So far, five of the captives have made it out of the forest while efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining ten as of the time of filing this report.
