Residents protesting incessant abduction and killing of innocent people by bandits blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway for hours on Saturday.

The mass action was reportedly triggered by the killing of a 13 year-old girl by bandits on Friday night (June 18).

Residents of the communities around the incident consequently poured into the Abuja-Kaduna highway to express their grievances.

The protesters, from Anguwar Magaji, comprised mostly of youths and women, some of whom were barely-clothed.

They came out as early as 7.30am to block the road, making it impossible for travellers to continue their journey.

A clip of the protest shows a mass of people on the highway, with vehicles parked on the road and beside the road.

Bandits had also prior to the protest, visited the house of the Village Head and abducted his family as well as other persons in the community.

The entire area has been beset by mass exodus on account of the attacks by armed bandits who visit as they like to abduct residents and take their time to ransack the homes for valuables.

A Yoruba trader was reportedly abducted with her children after she protested that she would not allow her newlywed daughter to be taken away from her.
