Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of four men for the theft of a heavy-duty generator powering a cell site belonging to MTN Nigeria in Sango-Ota.
The men, including the site maintenance engineer, Clement Idenyi, 42, were apprehended right in the act on Sunday, June 6.
According to a press statement by the spokesman of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the other suspects include Orogade Olalere, 41; Ademola Adekunle, 53; and Tunde Adewale.
He said they were arrested following information received by the Divisional Police Officer, Sango-Ota Divisional Headquarters, that the gang had concluded plan to break into and steal the (FG Wilson) generator providing power to the MTN mast, located at 7, Akintunde Street, Oando, Ijoko Ota.
The DPO, Sango-Ota Division, CSP Godwin Idekhai, subsequently detailed his surveillance team to monitor the area.
The suspects reportedly showed up at 5am on Sunday with a Hiab truck with which they lifted the generator, unaware that they were being watched.
As soon as they lifted the generator into the truck, the policemen swooped on them and apprehended three of the suspects.
During interrogation, it was established that Clement Idenyi, the site maintenance engineer, was the mastermind of the crime.
The police also established that Adewale had been contacted and had agreed to buy the generator from them if they succeeded in stealing it.
He also provided them with logistics to make the stealing easier, hence he was equally apprehended.
The state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, commended the proactive move and ordered a thorough investigation of the case so that the suspects could be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
This is very sad to this man
