The Niger State government has banned the activities of commercial motorcycles in the state capital, Minna, following security intelligence that bandits are planning to storm the city using motorcycles.
A statement by the state government said non-commercial motorcycles could operate within the hours of 6 am to 9 pm but a complete ban is placed on commercial riders.
“Please be informed that the Niger State Government has banned completely the operation of commercial motorcycles within Minna, the state capital,” the statement reads.
“Non-commercial motorcycles however, are permitted to operate but only within the hours of 6 am and 9 pm. Restriction time is 9 pm to 6 am.”
The state government revealed that the ban is necessary after security reports show that bandits are planning to use motorcycles to carry out attacks in the state
The state government said the ban took effect from today, Thursday, June 3, 2021, and would be extended to all parts of the state in the coming weeks.
The state government apologised to residents over any inconvenience the ‘necessary decision’ might cause them.
