Yoruba Nation agitators chase customs officials away, open Idiroko border

Customs Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali (retd

Some Yoruba nation agitators have stormed Idiroko in Ogun State and forcefully opened the land border.

Recall that the border has been shut since 2019 when the Federal Government directed that all importation be done through the seaports.

A video seen by MSN showed the moment some men who called themselves Yoruba Nation agitators stormed the border and flung the gates open.

Some of the boys can be heard telling each other not to destroy anything, but only to open the shut border.

They complain that the borders up North have been opened, asking why is it that the borders in Yoruba-land must be shut.

At a point, the advancing boys initially ran in the direction of a man in army camouflage possibly to attack him, but an authoritative voice can be heard shouting instructions to them to leave him alone and concentrate on their business which is to open the border.

One of the boys can also be seen with a rifle and some conversation behind the camera suggested that the rifle was collected from a customs official. The commander of the boys can be heard repeatedly telling the gun carrier not to shoot anybody.

A young man who was apparently recording the activities without the group’s permission was attacked and beaten mercilessly, with blood oozing out of his mouth.

Eye witness around the border however confirmed that the situation had returned to normal at the time of filing this report.
