A bus driver was beaten within an inch of his life by a soldier for reportedly stopping for schoolchildren to cross the highway in Lagos.
In a viral video, the soldier in military camouflage is seen asking the driver to disembark from his commercial bus.
The video shows the soldier hitting the driver repeatedly on the head and face as he is trying to get down. As the driver, who is begging the soldier makes attempt to disembark from the bus, the soldier uses what appears to be his belt to flog the driver repeatedly before delivering some hard kicks to his torso with his jackboot.
Some passengers of the bus, alarmed he might kill the driver, can be heard feebly begging the soldier to leave the bus driver alone.
Satisfied, the soldier mounted his motorcycle and drove off. Someone that appears to be a passenger on the seat beside the assaulted driver can be heard asking the driver what really happened.
The driver explained that his offence was waiting for some school children to cross to the other side of the road, adding that the military man accused him of applying the brakes unexpectedly.
“I waited for students to cross the road because I could not hit them. That was why he came to start beating me. He said I applied the brakes suddenly because he was behind me on the lane,” the assaulted driver said.
