Napoli have sacked their Head Coach, Gennaro Gattuso after a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona on Sunday night saw them fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Napoli began the day in fourth, knowing they needed to better Juventus’ result against Bologna to secure qualification.
However, Gattuso’s side came unstuck against mid-table Verona as they could only manage a draw, while Juventus cruised to a 4-1 victory to leapfrog Napoli in the Serie A table.
Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis disclosed the club’s decision in a tweet via his official twitter handle.
He tweeted:
“Dear Rino, I am happy to have spent almost two seasons with you. Thanking you for your work, I wish you success wherever you go. A hug to your wife and children too. Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli needed all 3 points to leapfrog Juventus into the Champions League spots but fell short after Davide Faraoni’s 69th minute equaliser for Hellas Verona cancelled Napoli’s Amir Rrahmani’s 60th minute strike.
Napoli heads to the Europa League as Champions Internazionale, AC Milan, Atalanta and Juventus head into the Champions League for next season.
