A driver identified as Adamu Usman has been confirmed dead after being shot by gunmen who abducted 13 passengers along Shafa-Abakpa -Umaisha road in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Usman was shot thrice on the abdomen. He died at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital where he was taken to for treatment on Tuesday night.

Another driver, Ibrahim Saidu who recounted how the incident occurred told Daily Trust that it took place around 5pm.

He said the vehicles which were conveying passengers from Ugya to Abaji and Toto town were attacked by kidnappers who emerged from the bush in large numbers.

They apparently shot at the bus and hit the driver who lost control of the vehicle. The bandits surrounded the vehicles and whisked away 13 passengers.

Saidu said he was driving behind the four vehicles affected, but stopped at one of the villages to pick a passenger. That was how the four vehicles gave him a wide gap. He said he later heard gunshots ahead of him and he immediately made a U-turn.
