A Port Harcourt branch of a commercial bank is facing public odium after they allegedly denied a sick man access to his money till he died on their premises.

A video shared by Flaze Media showed how the distraught daughter and son of the man were weeping and cursing the officials of the bank believed to be FCMB as the signpost indicated.

A large crowd of sympathisers gathered outside the bank to behold the spectacle, while some were seen massing around the vehicle conveying the dead man.

“The man is in the car outside o. Come and carry the dead body and feast on it” the lady said to be a daughter of the late bank customer was heard shouting and wailing at the entrance of the bank.

Bank officials sensing trouble had shut the door, not allowing anyone to come in or go out.

Narrating what transpired, a man who introduced himself as the driver of the late bank customer said he was very angry with the officials of the bank because he was aware of all the efforts they made to get money to treat the man.

He said the man was not poor and was the owner of the car he died in.

“It’s not my car. I am just his driver, “ he declared.

He said the man fell sick last week and asked his son to collect money from the bank so he could be treated at the hospital.

He said the bank officials said they wanted to see the owner of the account before they could release any money.

“It’s only N50,000 they wanted to collect for hospital treatment, but they said no.”

He said they then carried the man to the bank and was in the car for over three hours before they finally took a look at him and asked them to go and the son could come back.

The driver said when the son returned, the story changed again as the bank officials insisted on seeing an affidavit from a competent court.

He said the court was not sitting and they were therefore stranded and the man’s sickness was getting worse.

According to him, they then decided to bring the man again, maybe they would see reason, but they still met a brickwall and in the process, the man gave up the ghost.

Another person was heard in the video saying the late bank customer first vomited and then started foaming in the mouth and died.”
