Motorists travelling on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday were stranded for several hours after a container fell off a truck and blocked the way on the Ibadan-bound part of the Long Bridge.
MSN learnt that the incident happened about 3pm when the driver of the truck lost control and had an accident, blocking the road and preventing other road users from passing through.
As usual, some impatient motorists drove against the traffic and soon blocked the Lagos-bound vehicles as well, creating a gridlock.
It took the combined efforts of the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to restore some measure of sanity on the road.
By 6pm the team was able to move the container to one side of the road for smooth flow of traffic. However, the heavy backlog lasted till 9pm.
