The Benue State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly robbed and strangled a businesswoman and dumped her body in a well.

The suspect, identified as Benjamin Terungwa Agura, on April 7, 2021, allegedly murdered Ruth Mbachilin, a yam trader, and dumped her body in a well near Uchi Mbakor in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was learnt that the suspect lured the businesswoman out under the pretext of having some yam tubers he wanted to sell to her.

The suspect reportedly took the woman to a location called Wanune and from there to his compound in Uchi Mbakor, where he allegedly killed her.

Her relatives who did not see her at the close of business reported to the police, who through their investigation were able to link her with Terungwa and tracked him down.

Terungwa initially denied knowing anything about Ruth’s whereabouts, but confessed days later under interrogation that he indeed murdered the woman.

On Friday, April 16, he led the police to the well where he dumped the deceased’s body and the decomposing body was exhumed.

A Facebook user, Garshagu Atovigba, who shared the photos on his page, said the suspect made away with the sum of N70,000 belonging to the deceased after killing her.

The suspect is currently being detained by the police preparatory to being arraigned in court.
