I won’t pay ransom even if my son is kidnapped, says El-Rufai

Kaduna State Gov. Nasir El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has insisted that he would not pay ransom to bandits for the release of any kidnap victim in the state.

The governor said even if it was his son that was kidnapped, he would not pay any ransom for his release.

“I’ll rather pray for him to make heaven, because I won’t pay any ransom,” the governor said in a radio interview in Kaduna.

The governor said he had told his family members to mind how they moved and avoid being abducted because he would never pay ransom for their freedom if they were abducted.

“I mean it, and I will say it again, here. Even if my son is kidnapped, I will rather pray for him to make heaven instead, because I won’t pay any ransom.”

The governor, who had earlier stated that bandits should be wiped out, has been under pressure to get the kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry and Mechanisation, Kaduna.

He has ruled out the option of paying a ransom. He said that government was looking at some other means of securing their freedom.
