Dare-devil robbers shot their way into United Bank for Africa (UBA), Issele-Uku branch, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta state on Tuesday, killing three people and making away with some cash.
An eye-witness posted the aftermath of the operation on his Instagram page, showcasing the extensive damage done to the building housing the bank.
Also circulating online are pictures of a guard and one other shot on the bank premises.
MSN gathered that the robbers shot continuously, killing the guard and one other on the bank premises and a woman some distance away from the bank. She was reportedly hit by a stray bullet.
It was gathered that they operated unchallenged for over an hour.
It was learnt that the armed robbers placed members of their gang in strategic locations in the vicinity while other members of the gang attacked the bank.
They were also said to have visited the divisional police headquarters ostensibly with the intention of killing the officers on duty, but the officers had reportedly fled.
While the operation lasted, residents claimed they dialed the lines made available to the public to reach the security outfit set up to tackle such emergencies, ‘Operation Delta Hawk’, but there was no response.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, Delta State Police Command, confirmed the robbery incident, but declined to speak on the number of casualties.
He said the command was on top of the situation and was already making efforts to track down the robbers.
