Nigeria qualified for 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, even before the kick off of their game against Benin Republic in Porto Novo, which ultimately ended 1 nil in favour of Nigeria.
This was made possible by the goalless draw between Lesotho and Sierra Leone earlier in the day in the Group L that Nigeria also belongs to.
With this result, Lesotho can no longer qualify for next year’s tournament in Cameroon.
The result also put Sierra Leone below the Super Eagles on the table.
The Leone Stars now have four points after four matches, while their hosts have three, with one round of fixtures left.
The Super Eagles squad later took on the Squirrels of Benin and emerged winners.
A late strike from Paul Onuachu gave Nigeria an edge over the Squirrels of Benin Republic at the qualifiers played at the Charles de Gaulle stadium in Porto-Novo.
By the victory, the Eagles ended Benin’s eight-year unbeaten home record, which stretched back to 2013.
