The lecturer accused of raping a 17-year-old student in his office, Dr. Stephen Ukenna, has been relieved of his job by the management of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
Dr. Ukenna had been a lecturer in the Department of Business Management in the university since 2017 before he was accused of the crime by the student (name withheld) and her parents and arrested on March 11, 2021.
MSN gathered that the Chancellor and President of the University’s board, Bishop David Oyedepo approved the dismissal of the lecturer with immediate effect.
Recall that Dr Ukenna had reportedly lured the student into his office under the guise of planning a surprise birthday party for her close friend, but the lecturer allegedly locked the door once she entered and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
A statement by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that the Area Commander Ota, ACP Muyideen Obe, upon a report from the student’s parents, deployed his team to the school where the lecturer was arrested.
On interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action.
Dr. Ukenna trained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria, bagging a Doctor of Philosophy in Marketing and joined Covenant University in 2017 as a lecturer in the Department of Marketing.
