The Lagos State Police command has identified the man who assaulted a lady in a public transport after she called him out for masturbating.
The man who was captured in a video masturbating and then slapping fellow passenger, Olajumoke Okeyemi, in a commercial vehicle on 13th March, 2021 has been identified as Mr. Mathew.
The police said contrary to his claim in the video, he is not a police officer.
Preliminary investigations by the police have shown that he is a driver employed by GTC Laundry Services, along Channels TV Road, Isheri, in Lagos.
The police also established that Mr Matthew was in a commercial bus moving from OPIC Estate Isheri to Mowe with the lady in question when the recorded incident happened.
The police said they had launched an investigation into the incident together with Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Alausa, Ikeja and had intensified efforts to arrest the suspect.
According to a statement by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Lagos police command, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, described the act as inhuman, immoral and criminal. He particularly deplored the attempt by the suspect to drag the name of the Nigeria Police Force in the mud.
The statement said the commissioner had ordered the Gender Unit of the Command to expedite action on the case in order to arrest and prosecute the suspect.
