A lecturer at the Covenant University, Ota Ogun State, Dr. Stephen Ukenna is currently in detention after he was arrested for rape by the police.
Dr. Ukenna, 41, of the Department of Business Management at the university was arrested on March 11 for forcing himself on a 17-year-old student of the school (name withheld).
Trouble started for the lecturer when the parents of the victim lodged a complaint at the Ota Area Command of the Nigeria Police.
The parents told the police that their daughter narrating to them that she was invited by Ukenna to his office on the said date under the pretence that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
The parents alleged that when the girl got to Ukenna’s office, he locked the door and forcefully had sex with her on his office table.
The Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this on Tuesday.
“Upon the report, the Ota Area Commander, ACP Muyideen Obe, swiftly deployed his JWC team to the school where the randy lecturer was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but was unable to give any reason for his action.
Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
