Police, Amotekun comb Osun bushes as gunmen kill one, abduct travellers

Some gunmen have killed a passenger of a commercial car, and abducted unspecified number of commuters along Osogbo-Ibokun Road.

Sources in the area said the incident occurred between 7.30 and 80pm on Tuesday near Ajebandele, a village in the Obokun local government area of Osun State.

It was learnt that two people were also injured while a commercial vehicle was damaged.

The spokesperson for the Osun Command of Nigeria Police Force, Yemisi Opalola, on Wednesday said search and rescue operation for those abducted had commenced.

Opalola said police operatives, joined by men of the Joint Task Force and Amotekun Corps, were combing the bush to secure the release of the victims.

The perpetrators had reportedly attacked a car said to have taken off from Ede and headed for Esa Oke.

Security sources said the gunmen shot dead one of the occupants and forced the vehicle to stop before abducting some of the passengers.

Many of the commuters caught in the melee that followed the attack, were said to have abandoned their vehicles and ran into the bush.

The Field Commander, Amotekun Corps in Osun, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, confirmed the incident.

Amitolu said the deceased was shot on the head by the attackers Ak-47 rifle.

“At the scene, we recovered shell of the bullet used by the attackers. From that, we can say the perpetrators used Ak-47 rifles. One person was shot dead, two others were injured.

“Some passengers in the vehicle were also abducted and taken to the bush. We are still combing the bush to rescue those that are still being held,” Shittu said.
