President Mohammadu Buhari’s nominee for the post of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa has been confirmed by the senate.
He appeared before the senate on Wednesday, was grilled during the Senate plenary and was subsequently confirmed as substantive chairman of EFCC.
Bawa responded to many questions posed by senators on his capacity to handle the position, given his age and the challenges of a complex society like Nigeria.
He assured the senators he was up to the task, and had garnered enough experience since he joined EFCC in 2014 to make a mark in the role.
The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, at some point stopped the questioning and apologized to other lawmakers who still wanted to ask questions, pleading with them to let them release the gentleman because of time.
He later announced: “The Senate Committee of the whole considered the nominee of President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
“The nominee answered questions by the distinguished Senators. It is a true reflection of what happened?
“Senate hereby confirmed the nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”
