The governor of Rotary Club’s district 9112, Rotarian Olufemi Clement Adenekan, has outlined a number of salient points and steps that can help youths of today become good leaders of the future.

Rotarian Adenekan, who is fondly called ‘DG’ by his colleagues and members, gave these points while reeling out ‘the codes of achieving full potentials’ during the opening ceremony of the district’s maiden Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) at Sea School, Apapa, Lagos.

The amiable Rotarian further pointed out that, in order not to end up futile, each of the camp attendees, now fondly called RYLArians, must pay keen attention to everything they are taught during their stay from Saturday, August 10th to Sunday, August 18th.

Rotarian Adenekan also urged them to interact in the best way possible and imbibe good ideals that would be passed on to them by the camp officials.

He enjoined all the RYLArians, who are sponsored to the camp by various Rotary Clubs across Lagos metropolis, Sagamu, Arepo and other parts of Ogun State, to adopt productive values that would make him proud of them in years to come.

‘DG’ expatiated: “I urge you to work assiduously towards achieving your goals and making a difference in your community.

“Understanding your potential is not just about personal purpose, but it’s also about making a difference in life.

“Your actions can inspire, affect and effect changes in the community you belong. That’s why you must face responsibilities that come with leadership.”

The pioneer governor of RC 9112 also encouraged all the 294 youngsters at the camp, which is located on an island off the quays at Liverpool area of Apapa, to ensure they reflect when they get back home all lessons learnt during the week-long programme.

“You must use your skill to contribute for the betterment of our society and show acts of integrity,” Adenekan added.

“The journey ahead is yours to shape. The journey ahead of you is for you to decide. Embrace your vision, cultivate resilience, commit to growth and use your potential to make meaningful differences.

“The world needs you. So, use your energy, your ideas, and your potential to shape leadership. You are the architect of your tomorrow. Build a forum of purpose and passion.

“I am already excited, and I want to see how each of you will rise to the challenge and unleash your potential.

“I hope to see you sometime standing tall in the future. To see you shining and consolidating the magic of Rotary.”

Adenekan posited that at the end of RYLA 2024 on Sunday, all the teenagers, youths and adolescents would have truly imbibed various facets of this year’s theme, which is ‘using the magic of Rotary to unleash the potential in our youth.’
