The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old strike.
A formal announcement to this effect is expected from ASUU leadership this morning.
ASUU decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.
Sources informed Microsecondnews that this was the resolution of the NEC meeting.
Following the Court of Appeal ruling last week which asked the union to suspend the strike action before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard, its state branches met last week and voted to conditionally suspend the strike.
The National Executive Committee meeting was attended by chairmen of the state chapters and national executive members at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.
ASUU had been on strike since February 14 this year.
