MAPOLY student allegedly arrested by police for buying contraceptives, pregnancy test strips in Ogun State
A student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has allegedly been arrested by the police for buying contraceptives and pregnancy test strips in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
A Twitter user, Olukoya Oluwatosin, with the handle, @Sisi_Olole took to the platform to raise alarm, calling on human rights activists and other influential people to help free her sister identified as Olanipekun Oladayo Irenimofe.
In her follow up tweet, she revealed that the pharmacist who sold the items to her had also been arrested by the police.
She wrote in a series of tweets:
“My sister a student of Mapoly just got arrested for going to buy postpill and pregnancy strip. She’s at police post Abeokuta. Please help me oooo this police thing don reach my side @SavvyRinu @TundeTASH I’d not know who else to contact.
“Please help oooo she just told me they’ve gone to arrest the pharmacist that sold them to her”
“Please RT if you can see this ejoor ooooo they just collected her phone now while (I) was speaking with her. Her name is Olanipekun Oladayo Irenimofe
“Please help me her phone has (been) seized ! I’m in Lagos I can’t do anything ejoor.
“Please she has been locked up locked up for buying pregnancy strip ejoor ooooo”
The tweet got the attention of many online activists, a few of whom waded into the matter.
Many wondered if the items were prescription materials or they suspected her of something else.
The Student Union Government President of Mapoly, with the Twitter handle, @babs_hub tweeted about 1 pm that he was at the station and she had been released.
