How ‘Lion of Lagos’ was caught after stealing laptops, hard drives at Oriental Hotel

The luck of notorious serial thief Timothy Nbachu, popularly known in his circles as the “Lion of Lagos,” finally ran out after an aggrieved wedding photographer used social media and high-definition CCTV footage to track him down.
The incident occurred during a high-profile wedding ceremony at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Emmanuel, the lead creative behind Eman Pictures, was covering the event when Nbachu walked into the venue dressed impeccably as a guest.
Blending seamlessly with attendees, the suspect slipped into the bride’s suite and made off with a bag containing a MacBook Pro M1 and four external hard drives.
The theft delivered a crushing blow to the photographer, as the stolen hard drives contained irreplaceable raw video footage and photos for five undelivered client weddings.
Refusing to let the culprit escape, the photographer immediately secured crisp CCTV surveillance footage from Oriental Hotel management.
The video clearly captured Nbachu loitering around the premises, entering the room, and walking out carrying the gear.
Emmanuel took to social media platforms, releasing the footage alongside a cash reward offer to anyone who could identify the suspect.
The post quickly went viral across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), triggering a wave of recognition from previous victims who identified Nbachu as a notorious corporate thief whose operations across Lagos event centres date back years.
Following the overwhelming social media outcry, public identification, and pressure on key fencing hubs, the victim successfully caught the suspect and recovered the stolen MacBook and hard drives.
Unconfirmed reports said he had already formatted the MacBook by the time he was apprehended.
The suspect remains in police custody undergoing interrogation ahead of formal prosecution.
