Suspect faces murder charge
The Imo State Police Command has clarified the identity of 17-year-old Chiamaka Chukwuokore, who died after being pushed from a two-storey building in Owerri, confirming she was the niece of the suspect’s girlfriend.
The suspect, 26-year-old Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, allegedly pushed the teenager following an altercation on November 1, 2026, along Mbonu Ejike Street in the Ikeneagbu area of the state capital.
Police operatives initially rescued Joseph from an enraged mob shortly after the incident and took him into custody while the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Following Chukwuokore’s death from her injuries, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Henry Okoye confirmed that the command has upgraded the case to a murder charge.
State Commissioner of Police Audu Bosso offered condolences to the bereaved family, promising a meticulous investigation while cautioning the public against circulating unverified reports surrounding the incident.
