‘You cannot divorce and remarry’- Apostle Michael Orokpo

Nigerian preacher Apostle Michael Orokpo has cautioned Christians against ending their marriages and entering new unions following domestic conflicts, stressing that couples should pursue spiritual reconciliation instead.
Cleric rejects social media advice on marital crises
In a widely circulated video addressing relationship challenges, Orokpo advised married individuals facing disputes or physical altercations not to rush into divorce based on commentary from digital platforms.
He asserted that scriptural doctrine does not permit dissolving a marriage simply because a couple encounters severe disagreements.
The cleric recommended that couples experiencing persistent conflict consult recognized church authorities rather than making impulsive decisions driven by emotion.
He noted that while temporary physical separation may be necessary in extreme cases, such periods should be paired with intensive spiritual counselling aimed at character transformation and mutual understanding.
Remarriage carries spiritual consequences, cleric cautions
Orokpo maintained that even if a formal separation becomes unavoidable after structured counselling fails, the individuals involved are not biblically permitted to marry someone else.
Referencing scriptural teachings on marriage and adultery, he warned that divorcing outside strict biblical parameters and remarrying places individuals at risk of spiritual compromise.
Addressing unmarried Christians, the preacher urged individuals to select life partners grounded in biblical principles rather than fleeting emotions, while encouraging married couples to fortify their unions through prayer, personal development, and scriptural study.
