Nigerian singer Chidinma Ekile has opened up about her attempt to permanently relocate abroad prior to making her official transition from secular music to the gospel genre.

Speaking at a recent event organised by her record label, Eezee Conceptz, the former Project Fame winner revealed that she actively processed papers to secure residency in a foreign country because she had no intention of returning to Nigeria.

“I travelled. I ran away from Nigeria. I was processing my papers not to come back to Nigeria, but for some reason, it didn’t work,” Chidinma disclosed.

Role of Eezee Conceptz in her return

The singer explained that during her time overseas, the Chief Executive Officer of Eezee Conceptz, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee), was the only person from Nigeria who maintained consistent communication and offered encouragement.

She credited his regular calls with providing her the moral strength needed to abandon her relocation plans and return home.

Chidinma recounted that upon her return to Nigeria, she personally requested a gospel recording contract from the label to facilitate a spiritual realignment rather than commercial ambition.

“When I came back, I asked him to give me a gospel music contract because I want to spend time with God. And he gave me a contract that even my lawyer said seemed like a charity,” she added, noting that her transition was fundamentally driven by a desire for a deeper relationship with God rather than a career move into gospel music.
