Kenyan entrepreneur suffers brain damage after alleged birthday poisoning

A Kenyan businesswoman, Roselyn Ashanti Mchuna, has been left with severe brain damage following an alleged poisoning during her birthday celebration in Mombasa, Kenya.
Mchuna, who operates a chain of short-let Airbnb apartments across several towns, hosted friends and family for a lavish party on February 14, 2026, when she suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a medical facility.
Medical diagnosis and current condition
According to an account shared online by a commentator, Simon Mwangi Muthiora, medical examinations revealed that Mchuna had ingested a toxic substance during the event.
The incident left her with 50 percent brain damage, forcing her to spend several months in the intensive care unit.
The severe neurological damage has rendered her unable to walk, speak, see, or eat independently. She is currently undergoing long-term nursing care under the supervision of her mother.
Family demands police probe into attempted murder
Following the incident, Mchuna’s family formally reported the case to security agencies as a suspected attempted murder, urging authorities to identify those responsible for her condition.
However, the family expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, alleging that law enforcement agencies have failed to arrest or question any suspects present at the gathering.
While official police reports and toxicology findings remain unreleased to the public, the incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for a thorough official inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her collapse.
