Chukwudi Nnayerugo, the Nigerian internet personality known as Killaboi, who is standing trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta, has detailed before the Lagos State High Court how he allegedly uncovered text messages discussing paid amorous affairs on her social media.

Testifying before Justice Ibironke Harrison at the TBS Annex in Igbosere, Nnayerugo stated that he began monitoring Augusta’s Instagram account after she returned to school in June 2023. He claimed he found a conversation with an account bearing the name “Yako,” where the sender referred to her as “sweetheart” and discussed financial compensation.

Defendant’s testimony and staged chat

According to Nnayerugo, Augusta insisted on her price during the chat and refused to lower her demands.

The Staged Conversation: The defendant admitted to obtaining a virtual SIM card to set up a WhatsApp account using “Yako’s” name and profile picture, posing as the individual to continue chatting with Augusta.

Financial Demands: Nnayerugo claimed that during the simulated chat, she demanded 1.5 million naira, turned down an offer of 800,000 naira, and eventually agreed to a finalised amount. He further alleged she agreed to unprotected intimacy contingent on mutual medical tests.

Confrontation and Fallout: Claiming the discovery left him emotionally distressed, Nnayerugo said he eventually initiated a video call where Augusta screamed and dropped her phone upon seeing him. He stated he confronted her over the messages and officially ended the relationship.

During the proceedings, Nnayerugo also mentioned that Augusta’s mother rebuked him for accessing her daughter’s private account, calling the action a criminal offence.

Court proceedings and next steps

Defence counsel Marcel Oru requested that Augusta’s mother and brother be excused from the courtroom before the playback of a proposed video recording to prevent further emotional trauma. The prosecuting counsel, Adebayo Araba, raised no objections to the application.

Justice Harrison subsequently adjourned the matter.
