The Rivers State Police Command has taken swift disciplinary action against senior officers following viral video reports showing suspected cult members celebrating the completed renovation of a police facility in the state.
The controversy erupted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, after footage circulated online showing suspected cult members gathering at the Abuloma Police Outpost to celebrate funding and completing structural work on the public facility.
The incident sparked immediate public outrage across social media, with citizens questioning the integrity and independence of local law enforcement.
Senior officers queried and removed from posts
Responding to the viral video, the Police Public Relations Officer for Rivers State, ASP Agabe Blessing, issued an official statement condemning any association between police personnel and unlawful organisations.
The command confirmed that both the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) overseeing the Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer in charge of the specific outpost have been formally queried and relieved of their duties pending a full internal inquiry.
“Police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law,” ASP Agabe stated. “They must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation, recognition, or influence.”
Full investigation ordered into funding and authorisation
The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State has directed a comprehensive investigation to determine how the renovation project was authorised and executed.
The investigation will focus on several critical areas:
Identifying the exact individuals or groups who financed and facilitated the renovation.
Determining which police officers authorised, approved, or permitted the project to take place.
Establishing whether standard administrative procedures were bypassed or compromised.
Investigating the extent to which police personnel cooperated with or accepted favours from suspected criminal elements.
The command reiterated its commitment to upholding professional discipline, assuring the public that any officer found guilty of compromising the integrity of the force will face strict disciplinary measures.
