The family of popular Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, widely known as Toluwanisings, has officially confirmed his passing following hours of uncertainty and conflicting reports online.
In an official statement released on the singer’s social media channels, the family announced that the gospel minister passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
“With deep sorrow, the family announces the passing of Minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, Toluwani Gospel Music Ministry (TOGOMM), who passed away in the early hours of 14 October 2026,” the statement read. “A dearly loved husband, family member, and gospel minister. Please keep his wife, family, and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time.”
The family noted that funeral arrangements would be made public in due course.
Eyewitnesses and industry colleagues mourn sudden loss
The confirmation followed a wave of anxiety on social media as fans, colleagues, and eyewitnesses shared accounts of the emergency.
Social media user Ennybets recounted witnessing the singer being rushed to a medical facility accompanied by emotional band members.
“I cried about this man’s passing,” he wrote. “The fact that I was seeing over 10 grown men who are his band members, crying heavily in front of me is giving me trauma.”
Legal practitioner and convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates, Pelumi Olajengbesi, expressed deep grief on social media, describing the death as a painful loss to the gospel community. Veteran gospel artist Mega99 similarly paid tribute, calling the late singer “a rare gem with a unique voice.”
Unofficial details emerge regarding final moments
While the family’s statement did not specify an official cause of death, unconfirmed media reports and accounts from media figures suggest that the singer suddenly collapsed before being rushed to multiple hospitals in search of emergency medical care.
The tragic news comes just three months after Toluwanisings and members of his musical crew survived a severe vehicular accident involving a heavy-duty truck, an event that had previously drawn widespread thanksgiving from his supporters.
