A local auto mechanic identified simply as Samson has been killed after being lured into a secluded bush under the pretext of repairing a broken-down vehicle in the Abijo area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The victim, who operated an auto repair workshop around Warike Estate, was contacted on Tuesday, September 15, to fix a Mercedes-Benz. Upon arriving at the designated location, he was ambushed, led into nearby bushes, and hacked to death.
Cult retaliation linked to targeted homicide
Police intelligence sources and anti-cultism advocacy groups indicate that the killing was a targeted retaliatory attack between rival secret cult groups.
The killing was reportedly carried out by members of the Eiye confraternity in retaliation for the September 9 murder of their member, Ola Sheu, near Adeba Bus Stop in Lakowe.
The victim was publicly known as a mechanic, but rival cultists identified him as a member of the Neo Black Movement (NBM/Aye) after an old photograph surfaced on social media showing him wearing cult regalia.
Police launch investigation and mobile tracking
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the victim’s family initially reported him missing after he failed to return from the job.
Detectives have visited the victim’s residence and workshop. Special police units are currently utilising mobile phone tracking and forensic analysis to locate the victim’s remains, apprehend the perpetrators, and restore security to the affected Ibeju-Lekki communities.
