Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has passed away in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
The elder statesman and veteran politician died today, Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Following the announcement of his passing, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside his predecessor Yahaya Bello, led a high-powered delegation of government officials to the Abuja residence of the late governor to pay a condolence visit to the bereaved family.
The visit was confirmed in a social media update by Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser on Public Relations to the Kogi State Governor, who shared images of state leaders offering prayers and support to the family.
Political legacy and tenure in Kogi State
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris served as the Chief Executive of Kogi State for nearly a decade, holding office from May 2003 until January 2012 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
After securing re-election in 2007, he completed his second term before handing over leadership to his successor, Captain Idris Wada, in 2012.
