A domestic disturbance investigation in Polk County, Florida, led to the arrest of a mother and her 22-year-old son after both individuals admitted to engaging in a multi-year incestuous relationship.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in Lakeland, southwest of Orlando, after 46-year-old Christina Clemens reported that her son, Shane Clemens, had struck her during a heated argument.
Investigation reveals unlawful relationship
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, deputies initially arrived at the scene to address the domestic violence report and took Shane Clemens into custody.
Following his arrest, the son alerted investigating officers that he and his mother had been maintaining a physical sexual relationship since he turned 18 years old.
When questioned by investigators regarding her son’s statement, Christina Clemens confirmed the allegations, reportedly telling deputies that they had been intimate “only about 100 times.”
Legal charges and proceedings
Following their admissions, law enforcement officers charged both individuals:
Shane Clemens (22): Arrested initially for domestic battery and subsequently charged with felony incest.
Christina Clemens (46): Arrested and charged with felony incest.
Under Florida state law, engaging in sexual relations with a direct lineal ancestor or descendant—including between a parent and an adult child—is classified as a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in state prison per count. Both suspects were transported to the Polk County Jail pending initial court appearances.
