Desmond Elliot apologises to Femi Gbajabiamila

Lagos State lawmaker and actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, seeking reconciliation following political friction arising from the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Lagos State.

In a video circulating on social media, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I was seen kneeling and prostrating before Gbajabiamila and other senior party chieftains during a reconciliation meeting.

Lagos Assembly crisis and political tensions

The dispute stems from internal party disagreements surrounding the leadership tussle within the Lagos State House of Assembly. 

During the height of the crisis, Gbajabiamila revealed that allegations linking Elliot’s political activities to the speakership race had generated scrutiny within the Presidency.

According to Gbajabiamila, President Bola Tinubu had previously raised intelligence reports regarding the matter, which the Chief of Staff addressed to clear any misunderstandings regarding his loyalties.

Elliot pledges renewed party loyalty

Speaking at the gathering, Elliot expressed deep regret for his actions during the primary, attributing his past decisions to poor guidance and pledging renewed loyalty to the party hierarchy.

“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir,” Elliot stated during the meeting. “In our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy.”

The gesture follows a previous television appearance where Elliot referred to Gbajabiamila as a long-standing political mentor, emphasising that any rift was unintentional.

Political reconciliation in Lagos APC

The formal apology marks a significant step toward resolving internal friction within the Surulere APC structure. Political commentators note that public gestures of reconciliation are common within Nigerian party politics to maintain structural cohesion, align constituency loyalties, and prevent factional divides ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

Following the public appeal, party leaders confirmed that internal mediation mechanisms remain active to ensure unity across all local constituencies.
